Vibrating Autism Pop Art

One of the things that caught our attention during this years Beirut Art Fair (2014) was the work of the an admirable autistic artist Ali Tlail who exhibited his latest paintings titled “Vibrating Autism Pop Art”. We loved Ali’s Tarboosh art work, one of everyone’s all time favorites… Under the supervision of the President of the Graphic Designers Union in Lebanon, Rita Moukarzel, Ali, follow in the footsteps of one of the most important pioneers of pop art, Andy Warhol, using pop art for authentic Lebanese products in his paintings, resorting to typography in writing the product names, focusing on both background and appearance. With chalk pastels, Ali draws his portraits, which is a delicate technique and he also used cubism and pastels, which have significant impact. Wallpaper* Celebrates Our Best: Middle East Revealed

Iconic design magazine Wallpaper* and Dubai Design District launched a special exhibition highlighting the fast developing up-and-coming designers throughout the Middle East. Editor-at-large and the exhibition’s curator Suzanne Trocme, fascinated with the creative identify growing in the Middle East, launched “Wallpaper Middle East Revealed” a platform replete with a curated collection of interdisciplinary design from across the region. A wide range of designers, whose work continues to map the area’s cultural identities. Although they come from different design backgrounds, the twelve designers share an astounding ability to adapt to new disciplines, ensuring they always remain relevant. The designers include Dubai-based Khalid Shafar, Emirati Lamya Gargash and Aljoud Lootah to name but a few. One thing they do have in common is the inspiration they find in their homeland, as they reimagine local tradition and craftsmanship and present it to the wider world....

It always makes us proud when we see one of our own designers being featured in international magazine. Here’s something we came across in Vogue Paris. The innovative designer, Sarah Beydoun has once again put her boundless imagination to good use with her vintage racing-car inspired clutch bag. It all began in Beirut in 1998, when Sarah Beydoun, a sociology student at the time, saw the need for better rehabilitation for female offenders. While volunteering at a female detention center, she put her creative skills to the test and encouraged women to design and make bags and purses by hand.
