Count the Diamonds: New Dubai Jewelry Firm AK Instagram Competition

New Dubai-based ready-to-wear jewelry brand AK is gathering together 14 leading illustrators for its pre-launch Instagram competition. The winner of the online competition will take home a one carat kite diamond. The artists will complete a one-off animated piece and Instagram users have to repost one of the images and guess the number of diamonds in the work to have a chance of winning the diamond. AK’s sparkling collection of works represents one of the biggest illustration collaborations of its kind, with the finished illustrations as diverse and inspirational as its roster of emerging and established artists. The lineup includes a range of artists including Poppy Waddilove and Helen Bullock, alongside emerging artists such as Noorah Kareem from Saudi Arabia, Brazil’s Fernando Chamarelli, Alena Ladovskaya, from Russia, Spanish illustrator Helena Perez Garcia’s whimsical ‘Sparkling and Germany’s Steffi Hoffman.

The competition was devised by AK’s founder, Ahmad Alkhallafi, a jewelry designer as highly regarded by the world’s leading jewelry ateliers as he is sought after for his meticulously crafted bespoke work for private clients, to ignite anticipation and curiosity in the brand’s forthcoming collection launches.

“Through this competition, AK celebrates international-caliber fashion illustration whilst also providing an opportunity for some of the Middle Eastern region’s design talent to gain visibility internationally. It’s been a delight to see how each artist interpreted the brief, applying their own language and artistic practices in order to contribute a truly amazing artwork that reflects the diversity and creativity that define contemporary fashion illustration,” said Alkhallafi.

 AK has also commissioned Iraqi visual artist and illustrator Tishk Barzanji to create the ‘AK World’, blending AK’s physical office in Dubai Design District and the brand’s online presence. A rising creative star, Barzanji combines photography and digital production of images, mixing 3D modeling with collage to construct colorful architectural landscapes.

Competition starts 12–22 January 2018, official brand launch will be 24 January 2018
