In a week’s time, Downtown Design Dubai is happening. Between 28 – 31 October Dubai plays host to Downtown Design, Middle East’s platform for original design. For the second year, quality-driven brands gets access to the rapidly growing market of the Gulf region.
One thing that we’re looking forward getting up close with some of the exhibiting brands that have collaborated with some of the world’s most celebrated names in fashion. Here’s a few to look out for while you’re visiting.
Sicis and Christian Lacroix
Sicis, world renowned Italian mosaic brand responsible for some of the world’s most premium mosaic art have collaborated with the iconic Christian Lacroix to create furniture showcasing a harmony of colour and expression. Christian Lacroix, famous for the way he embellishes and plays with hues designed the Theodora Armchair and Theodora Pouff in collaboration with Sicis. These pieces are part of a collection that is an eclectic combination of colour and style showcasing a harmony between two masters of style and sophistication.
Bolon and Missoni
Swedish woven flooring innovators Bolon joined forces with legendary Italian fashion house Missoni to create the Bolon by Missoni collection. This richly coloured, versatile, and powerful collection of exclusive woven floors gives new and exciting expression to Missoni’s beloved and characteristic attributes. The collection is based on Missoni’s classic patterns and stunning range of colours, which Bolon has reproduced thanks to the latest weaving technology. For over 60 years, Bolon have been creating their cutting-edge woven flooring using their very own weaving technique to create flooring such as this that is as durable as it is alluring.
S*uce and Kartell
In a regional first Sauce, an award winning multibrand fashion and lifestyle concept based in Dubai is collaborating with design powerhouse Kartell, to design Bourgie Lamps. The lamps will be designed by Emirati and Regional designers and will kick off the Middle East edition of the Bourgie collaborations following on from Kartell’s international initiative to celebrate the iconic lamp’s 10th anniversary, where renowned designers such as Philippe Starck and Mario Bellini have added their interpretation to the lamps. The impressive line up includes Emirati Khalid Shafar, Nadine Kanso, Nada Debs, Bokja, Zayan Ghandour, and Rana Salam whose collaborations will be revealed at the fair.
Diesel Living by Seletti and Diesel
Seletti is a story of vision and evolution specialised in a nonconventional approach to creating inspiring porcelain table centrepieces, cutlery and hybrid-design plates featuring two completely contrasting designs split crisply down the middle. In collaboration with the iconic Diesel, a new home accessories collection, Diesel Living, was born introducing a range of industrial-esque homeware to the market. The creative team of Diesel and Selletti’s designers work side by side developing a project that represents the perfect fusion between Diesel lifestyle and the creative expertise of Seletti.
Couture by Lasvit and Blanka Matragani
A Czech Republic company, Lasvit have quickly become one of the world’s most premium glass lighting specialists, combining the finest traditions and craft in innovative Bohemian glass-making with world-class research and development facilities. In a first collaboration with fashion designer Blanka Matragi, they have created Couture. Inspired by a layered skirt, this flawlessly crafted glass sculpture showcases the coming together of glassmaking craftsmanship and extraordinary design with precise rendering.
