Garen Demirdjian: Dark Gothic Touched with Soft Neutrals

Garen Demirdjian’s work is a blending of contrasting influences that are fused together to create unique fashions for today’s woman, the woman who lives in a society where culture and technology are moving forward at dizzying speeds.

The constant themes that run throughout his work are a layering of various tribal influences. Historical 18th century designs and materials are blended with modern high-tech shapes, fabrics and decoration; feminine cuts and decoration juxtaposed onto masculine shaped jackets, pants and shoes; dark romantic gothic themes are contrasted with touches of soft neutrals or vibrant accents.

A woman can easily assemble different pieces from the collection to create their own individual styles, while feeling confident that the result is elegant, feminine and unique.

This season’s inspiration is today’s urban woman on the go, managing busy schedules, running to meetings with little time to spare, juggling her many roles and yet always prepared for a night on the town.

Carefully tailored pants and jackets with comfortable cuts can be paired with feminine dressy tops to move effortlessly from day to evening. Flat leather shoes in antique silver, beige, grey and red faux crocodile are decorated with large gross grain ribbons and delicate French dentelle.

Black is always an essential and elegant staple of Garen’s work, as well as soft nudes and creamy whites. This season they are paired with petrol blue, navy, gold, silver and turquoise. An occasional florescent Orange adds a jolt of electricity and energy to collection. Backpacks are a must have for today’s urban warriors, the functional companion for a woman on the move.

Technology also plays a part in the collections as strings are carefully wired into the clothing creating a high-tech constructed look, however occasionally they dangle loose as a nod to the freedom to disconnect from the wired world. Clear wide protective eyeglasses are a look to the future where glasses are becoming integrated with mobiles and virtual reality to guide us through our journeys.
