The 30th annual ICFF was a meeting point for global design at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. With every design show comes a list of some of our favorite items spotted…. in addition to  art as well as some kitchen and bathroom novelties we found a few things we liked… proving that not all chairs are the same, not all tables are the same and not all vases are the same…

Outdoors Meet the Indoors with Bolonia Lounge

Bolonia lounge from iSimar, is a perfect design for relaxing both outdoor and indoor, look at the lounge and think about Bolonia dunes, our inspiring paradise. It has a main piece, the lounge, with a cushion that adapts perfectly. The collection is completed with a footrest, very comfortable for lying at the Mediterranean sun.

Bolonia lounge was chosen as 2018 NYCxDESIGN Awards Finalist in the Seating: Outdoor category during ICFF.

Glass Art Made Modern

Gardeco could be considered an art publisher – or editor – that represents artists and craftsmen. It’s where new ideas in art meet high-end decoration, made from fine quality materials such as ceramics, bronze and glass.

One of the items we loved are their glass bowls by Regina Medeiros, a glass artist who lives in Belo Horizonte, Brasil. Her new glass collection is Cá d’Oro is known for its artistic glass masterpieces, based on the techniques used in Murano, one of the islands of Venice, Italy.

The Purl Lounge Chair: Modern Can Be Comfortable

The new luxury seating collection by emerging brand durodeco includes a range of products that are edgy, yet warm, putting a whole new spin on contemporary furniture design. The brand strives for what they call “warm-modern,” a look that is both forward-thinking and something you can envision in your own living room.

The Purl Lounge Chair, a centerpiece of the new seating collection, is a striking example of the designers’ aspiration to create pieces that achieve this aesthetic. Acid etching gives the glass legs of the chair a satin finish that’s smooth to the touch. These satin legs suspend an ash wood frame seemingly in mid-air through brushed brass connections. The frame itself is actually a loom onto which a merino wool seat cushion is woven, creating a simple, daring, and surprisingly comfortable lounge chair.

Plec Tables: A Bold Trio with Accordion-shaped Legs

RS Barcelona made its annual visit to the ICFF show to unveil the new additions to its collection with an attitude that they call stayplayful. Plec is a collection of coffee and side tables that are as happy together as they are alone. With their accordion-shaped legs, all three Plec tables (large – 115 x 60 cm, medium – 70 x 70 cm and small – 37.5 x 37.5 cm), love creating light and shade effects at any time of day.

The Plec table has a steel structure coated with polyester paint. The table top comes in steel and now in marble as well, with a range of four colours available for both options, such as white, black, green and red. So you can combine sizes, colours and finishes any way you like.

The Plec table collection fits perfectly into any setting and space, whether as a coffee table in front of the sofa, as a bedside table, as a corner table in a reception area or waiting room, or in your garden surrounded by plants and flowers. That’s right, the Plec table is also suitable for outdoor use thanks to the cataphoretic coating process applied to the steel. The Plec table is one of those products that achieves the perfect combination of simple design, bags of personality, functionality and toughness.

Ceramic and Silicone Lamp inspired by Mount Fuji

The newest light from Hand and Eye Studio, the Fuji, is a ceramic and silicone lamp which combines time honoured ceramic craftsmanship with modern industrial design to create a truly elegant light. Inspired by Mount Fuji, the light is cone-shaped and the silicone piece at the top glows beautifully when the light is on, reminiscent of sunlight on a snow-capped mountain.

Adding to our current range of terracotta lighting is the Fuji Terracotta. The exterior is a matt textured raw ceramic that is hand made in the UK by craftsmen using a technique which gives the shade a subtle sweeping texture. The natural terracotta color is very versatile and adds warmth to any space whilst the inside of the lamp is glazed in a soft white to ensure that clean light is emitted.

The Fuji Color continues the thread of ceramic lighting but here the shade is made from a very fine Italian porcelain. The shade is handmade, using a special engobe glaze to create the stunning super-matt texture on the outside. This looks beautiful as the lighting conditions around the lamp change during the day and into night, highlighting the texture in differing ways. As a contrasting finish, the inside is a silky off-white satin porcelain. The Fuji Color is available in four subtle, modern colors: duck egg blue, mint green, pigeon grey and coral red. These can be mixed together in a setting as the shades complement each other well.
