Sunset offers a unique experience with an incomparable Bosphorus view. A hillside garden terrace with a remarkable view and exquisite Turkish and international cuisine makes Sunset an attractive spot for the upmarket clientele. How lucky are we to have had the chance to experience one of Istanbul’s most talked about “gathering spot” for both local and foreign socialites and Turkish business elites?
We were seated at a table with a beautiful view. Located on a hilltop below Ulus Park in the upscale neighborhood of Ulus, we were able to enjoy the spectacular view of the Bosphorus, Bosphorus Bridge and Asian shoreline, as we sipped on some Turkish white wine. That same view was enjoyed by celebrities including the likes of Bono from U2, actress Demi Moore and more. Exciting!
On that note, it’s worth mentioning that Sunset holds the best wine collection in Turkey; the cellar includes some of the finest rare wines in the world, from Petrus to La Tâche, Château Latour to Sassicaia, and Opus One to Château d’Yquem.
While waiting for our dinner, we enjoyed the timeless interior décor details Sunset has to offer – wood flooring, large glass facades all around connecting the outside with the inside and the ‘pièce de résistance’ is the head turning mirror tree sculpture in the middle of the space. Every leaf shaped mirror is lit all through out, spreading across the ceiling, creating a prominent interior detail for Sunset.
It was cold the night we were dining, so we were seated indoors, but Sunset also boasts a large dining area outside with huge tulip inspired installations all around – beautifully lit at night.
Time to eat. We enjoyed some Mediterranean, Turkish and New Japanese cuisines entrees and noticed a Sushi Bar as well.
Sunset was the first restaurant in Istanbul to add a Sushi Bar for the discerning clientele. They introduced the “New Japanese Cuisine” when Hiroki Takemura, the Master Chef of the internationally acclaimed Nobu Restaurant in London joined Sunset Grill&Bar offering his interpretations of Japanese cuisine. His specialties include a choice of starters and main courses and change according to season.
Enjoying the food, including mushroom risotto cooked perfectly el dente , their duck spring rolls, shrimps Tempura among other deliciously tasty dishes. Then for the main dish we had the salmon as well as their famous grilled steak… And best for last, their desserts: Chocolate soufflé, Tiramisu and Turkish baklava and Pumpkin cheesecake.
Open since 1994, Sunset Grill & Bar is still today one of the leading fine dining restaurants in Istanbul… we share a glimpse of our experience.
